- Like our Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/oilvips - Oil and gas are generated from a source rock, organic matter buried in the depths of the earth. Once formed, they climb back towards the surface. On their way, cap rocks can impede their progress and they accumulate in reservoir rocks. Here they constitute hydrocarbon fields, which can be identified by interpreting seismic data (a sort of echography). The data is obtained with the help of a seismic ship. To confirm the interpretations of seismic data, two types of drilling gear exist. Each is adapted to a range of depth of water (down to more than 2500 meters). The platform seen here is a semi-submersible, which floats and retains its stabilised position by means of anchors fixed on the seabed. Platforms at sea are used not only f...
Almost all of the world's largest conventional oil fields are in decline and tight oil has low EROI. Much of the industry is highly indebted and per-capita world consumption has peaked a long time ago. From the report: "Oil demand is still growing by ~1mbd every year, and no central scenarios that we recently assessed see oil demand peaking before 2040." 81% of the production of liquid oil is already in decline. HSBC sees between 3 and 4.5 million barrels per day of supply disappearing once peak oil production is reached. "In our view a sensible range for average decline rate on post-peak production is 5-7%, equivalent to around 3-4.5mbd of lost production every year." Based on a simple calculation, HSBC estimates that by 2040, the world will need to find around 40 million barrels of oil p...

Do you know where rice come from? I visited my family in Sultan Kudarat, Philippines. It's a rural area where most of the land is used for farming. The main crop grown is rice, and during my visit I was able to observe rice being planted and harvest. It takes 3 months to grow rice. The land is prepared by plowing, harrowing and leveling the field by machine or the traditional way of using a carabao. Usually one paddy have rice seeds planted to grow into seedlings, which are later transplanted. The rice seedlings are then planted in a straight line. While the rice grows, the paddies are repeatedly flooded to 1/3 of the rice stalk height to prevent weeds from growing and drained when fertilizer is going to be sprayed. The rice is ready for harvest when the grain yellows and t...
#oilwire - Total has announced start-up of production from the Edradour & Glenlivet gas and condensate fields, located in about 300 to 435 m of water in the West of Shetland area, close to Laggan-Tormore fields, which came on stream in February 2016. The Edradour and Glenlivet development will bring additional production capacity of up to 56,000 boed.

Almost 60% of the world’s oil reserves and resources come from giant oil fields and a small increase in recovery has a significant impact on production and reserves. Watch here to find out about our giant fields and what we are doing to maximise recovery from those fields.

Afghanistan is the world’s biggest exporter of black-market opium from which heroin is made. It’s a multi-billion dollar business, responsible for around a hundred thousand deaths every year and it’s a major source of income for terrorists. RT Doc travelled to the poppy fields where death is harvested to find out why no one can put a stop to this deadly trade. When it comes to heroin, a non-intervention policy is still going strong in Afghanistan where over 90% of the world’s black market opium is produced. Most finds its way onto the international drug market and the profits fund organized crime and terrorist groups like ISIS, which is growing in strength here. The dealers and manufacturers aren’t hard to find: they live in luxurious houses, have fields blooming with poppies and sell th...
I will present preliminary results on our survey for Verticillium in red raspberry fields. We compared two methods for detecting the pathogen and found that the DNA-based method (qPCR) was more sensitive than the culture-based method (plating). Verticillium was detected at more sites with qPCR than with the plating method. However, most Verticillium populations were very low. I will discuss advantages/disadvantages of each method and what the survey may mean in terms of disease.
March 8 (Bloomberg) -- Juan Jose Suarez Coppel, chief executive officer of Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex, discusses the company's plan to increase output through new contracts on three offshore blocks in Mexico's mature oil fields. Pemex aims to more than triple output to 55,000 barrels-a-day. Coppel, speaking from Houston with Betty Liu on Bloomberg Television's "In the Loop," also discusses the outlook for crude oil prices.
